Lucas
Lucas at work decorating Rolanndy Studio de Beauté, Rue Nicolas, Port-au-Prince
Lucas is the latest addition to the Amazing Barbershop roster of artists. A complete autodidact with almost thirty years working in the domain of barbershop portraiture, he is from the lower Delmas neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. As seen below, he sources his material primarily from hair-care catalogues, and his work is scattered throughout the city. Like all of the artists represented here, Lucas has a consistent and immediately identifiable style. His lines are bold and broad, and his paintings less hyper-real; his works are deeply imbued with the Haitian barbershop vernacular. He is a great choice in a portraitist for those more interested in owning a work representing the full, authentic flavor of Port-au-Prince street signage and perhaps less concerned with obtaining a photorealist reproduction of their image on canvas.

A worn and gridded image from one of Lucas’ hairstyle catalogues, and one of the heads he created from it for Rolanndy Studio.
A spectacular commission created as a gift from one sister to another.
Lucas has many repeat clients, and he is often called upon to repaint salons in order to keep the hairstyles fresh and in-line with the latest trends.
